Franz Ploger family 1860b. 12 Sept 1825 Hanover, Germany. Immigrated to Charleston SC 1846. Married 1st wife Catherine approx. 1855, had at least 3 children Catherine died 7 Feb 1865 of fever in Charleston. Married 2nd wife Helena Albers 29 Oct 1865, had a least 4 children. Enlisted 1861 Co. A, German Artillery, South Carolina Volunteers which was involved in defensive preparation of the South Carolina coast and Charleston harbor. Re-enlisted April 1862. Due to injury or illness designated J.F. Carlsen as substitute but remained active on company muster roll. Discharged April 1863 Remained in Charleston managing his grocery/saloon at 269 Meeting St into his 80’s Member of local German Rifle militia from its founding in 1855 until his death. Long-time Deacon of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Died 18 Nov 1911 of apoplexy at his final residence 84 Coming St, Charleston. Interred Bethany Cemetery, Section NE, Lot 48
